Bloomberg publishes Article on legal software “eDiscovery Accountability”

Babs Deacon of Venio Systems urges accountability best practices throughout eDiscovery projects

Bloomberg BNA has published legal software article “eDiscovery Accountability,” an article by Venio Systems’ Chief Marketing Officer and VP of Training and Education, Babs Deacon.

In the article, Deacon advises the various parties in an eDiscovery project on how to manage expectations throughout every phase of a project including Identification and the Meet and Confer. As Deacon notes, “The experienced project manager calls ahead with status updates, especially the problematic ones. The number one criticism with any provider is, having to call to find out why something is delayed. The client should be informed at the first hint of trouble. No one wants to be the bearer of bad tidings, but mature business people put feelings aside and call the client as early as possible.”

Specifically, Deacon outlines the general areas where managing expectations are needed, such as proactive communication, project management, and institutional metrics.

Deacon is an eDiscovery and Litigation Support industry pioneer with more than 30 years of discovery and information governance experience. She specialized in providing consulting, project management, and data reduction services to law firms, corporations and government clients, including management of the 9/11 WTC project for the Law Department of the City of New York. As a consultant and practice support manager for several prominent law firms, Deacon dedicates her efforts to educating, mentoring and evangelizing about discovery best practices and tactics. Deacon also is a board member of Legal Technology Professionals Institute, a not for profit organization
