Purview Governs Data.
Venio Wins Cases
Purview stops at collection. Venio runs the whole matter: legal hold, collection, AI-assisted review, redaction and court-ready production in one platform. Cloud, on-prem or air-gapped.
What is the Purview Gap?
Purview finds, holds and exports Microsoft 365 data. Then it stops. Everything after that, from hold notices to Bates-numbered productions, happens somewhere else.
The License Gap
Review sets, analytics, OCR and Copilot are Premium. Premium means E5-class licenses for the admin and every custodian in the case.
The Workflow Gap
No Bates numbering. No load files. Manual box redactions. Hold notices and acknowledgment tracking retired in 2025.
The Data Gap
Microsoft data only, Microsoft cloud only. Slack, Google Workspace, and mobile need partner connectors. No on-prem, no air-gapped.
Where Venio Goes Beyond Purview
Purview is strong at the front of the EDRM. Venio covers the whole line, and puts AI to work at every stage.

From Purview to Venio Without Re-Collecting a Single Custodian
Your Purview exports are not wasted work. Venio ingests them as they are, re-indexes the items Purview marked as partially indexed, and picks up the matter from there.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Venio's eDiscovery platform
Do I need to replace Microsoft Purview to use Venio?
No. Many Venio customers keep Purview for in-place holds and Microsoft 365 collection and use Venio for everything after that. Venio ingests Purview exports natively and can also collect directly from Microsoft 365 and Teams. Teams that want one system for the full lifecycle can move holds into Venio as well.
What does Purview eDiscovery really cost once a matter needs review?
More than the license line suggests. Review sets, analytics, OCR, threading, tagging and Copilot are Premium features, and Premium requires E5-class licensing for the case admin and for every custodian in the case. Purview's pay-as-you-go meters cover API exports beyond a free monthly allowance and storage of non-Microsoft AI data, not review or analytics. Copilot features draw on Security Compute Units beyond any included allowance. Venio is one fixed annual fee with AI included, so the cost of a matter does not change when the custodian list grows.
What happened to legal hold notifications in Purview?
Microsoft retired legal hold communications with custodians on August 31, 2025. The new eDiscovery experience has no hold notices, reminders, escalations, questionnaires or acknowledgment tracking. Purview still places the technical hold on mailboxes and sites. Venio Legal Hold covers the custodian side: templated notices, automated reminders and escalations, acknowledgment dashboards and a defensible audit trail, with AI helping to scope the right custodians and data.
Can Venio produce documents from Purview collections in court-ready formats?
Yes. Venio Production adds Bates stamping, slipsheets, privilege handling, TIFF, PDF, native and text output, and DAT, OPT and CSV load files that are Relativity and Concordance compatible. Purview's export options are native files, PST, .msg, extracted text and redacted PDF with an item report, which most opposing counsel and courts will not accept as a production.
How does Venio's AI compare to Copilot in Purview eDiscovery?
They solve different problems. Copilot in Purview drafts search queries from natural language and summarizes one review set item at a time, in English, within a word range, using Security Copilot capacity. Venio's AI is built into the review workflow: Continuous Active Learning and predictive coding prioritize what reviewers see, AI relevance and privilege identification accelerate first-pass decisions, PII detection drives redaction, and AI-assisted QC checks the production. Reviewers keep final authority and every AI-assisted decision is logged.
Can Venio run on-premises or air-gapped for regulated and government matters?
Yes. Venio runs in the cloud, on-premises inside your firewall, in a hybrid model, or fully air-gapped where external connectivity is prohibited. The on-prem build uses the same codebase, AI models and workflows as the cloud platform. Venio is SOC 2 Type II certified, GDPR compliant and FedRAMP-ready. Purview is cloud only, with government tenants available in GCC, GCC High and DoD.
How long does it take to get started with Venio?
Cloud environments are typically live in under 48 hours. On-premises deployments run in weeks rather than months, depending on infrastructure.
